We finally have a date. The Kept Man of the Princess Knight anime officially drops January 2027, confirmed straight from Kadokawa’s teaser drop on June 29, along with a new PV and visual showing Arwin and Matthew literally tied together by a red thread. Fitting, honestly.
Quick catch-up for anyone new here: this is the isekai-adjacent dungeon fantasy where Princess Knight Arwin raids dungeons to rebuild her fallen kingdom, and everyone in the “Dungeon City” thinks her partner Matthew is a broke, drunk deadbeat living off her money. Spoiler (not really, it’s the whole hook) — he’s secretly the strongest guy in the party. That “underestimated MC” trope shouldn’t work as well as it does here, but the light novel won the 28th Dengeki Novel Award grand prize, so clearly Toru Shirogane nailed it.
Cast-wise, Junichi Suwabe voices Matthew and Mikako Komatsu voices Arwin, both reprising roles from earlier promo videos. Studio BLADE is animating, Chihiro Kumano directs.
My personal tip if you’re catching up before January: skip straight to volume 3 of the light novel if you’ve only read the manga, that’s where the pacing actually clicks and Matthew’s backstory starts hitting different. I made that jump last month and it completely changed how I read his character.
For manga readers, the original series wrapped at 3 volumes, but the sequel, Act 2, started in August 2025 and is still ongoing, so there’s fresh material even after the source manga finished.
Mark your calendars. January 2027 is closer than it sounds.
