What is Go for It, Nakamura?
Okuto Nakamura is a quiet, closeted high school student with a hopeless crush on his classmate Aiki Hirose. They’ve never spoken. Nakamura wants to change that. He’s just… really bad at it.
That’s basically the whole premise. The manga by Syundei ran in the boys’-love anthology Opera from 2014 to 2016, collected into a single volume in 2017. It got a sequel — Go For It Again, Nakamura! — and now, finally, an anime.
Seven Seas Entertainment has been publishing the manga in English, and the BL community has adored it for years. Fans describe it as a retro-flavored romantic comedy — the kind of thing that feels warm, funny, and a bit wistful all at once.
The delay explained
The anime was originally set for 2025. In July 2025, the production team confirmed it was being pushed to 2026 due to “production circumstances” — no further details given. An advance screening of episodes 1 and 2 was held in Tokyo on August 24, 2025.
The wait seems to have been worth it. Director Aoi Umeki, known for co-directing Pop Team Epic, is also handling scripts and character design — a rare triple role that suggests a strong creative vision. Studio Drive, which previously worked on KonoSuba Season 3, is animating.
Cast
- Chiaki Kobayashi as Okuto Nakamura
- Yuki Sakakihara as Aiki Hirose
- Kappei Yamaguchi and Junko Takeuchi in undisclosed roles (both voiced the leads in the 2021 audio drama)
- Fairouz Ai as Hifumi Kawamura
What to expect
Five episodes is a short run — more of an OVA-style format than a full season. That means tight pacing and probably no filler. For fans of the manga, that’s a relief. For newcomers, it’s a low commitment entry into one of the more beloved BL manga in English translation.
The Crunchyroll listing places the premiere on April 2, 2026. The opening theme is “Shunpatsuteki ni Koi Shiyō,” details pending.
