The wait is finally over. Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? — the hidden-gem rom-com manga that’s been quietly racking up over a million copies — is coming to TV in April 2026. If you like your romance awkward, a little delusional, and surprisingly sweet, this one belongs on your watchlist.
Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku Release Date and Broadcast Details
Japanese Title: Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?
Premiere: April 8, 2026
Broadcast: Every Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. JST
Network: TV Asahi (IMAnimation W block)
Studio: TMS Entertainment Studio 6
Director: Arata Mita
What Is Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku About?
Takuya Seo is the kind of guy who sits in the back of class and hopes nobody notices him. He’s an otaku — specifically, a closet fan of a magical girl series called Kirarimon Pets — and he very much does not want his flashy gal classmates Kotoko Ijichi and Kei Amane to find out.
Then he drops his eraser. They overhear him correct them about the anime. And suddenly his secret is out.
What follows is exactly the kind of awkward, slow-building chaos you’d hope for: an otaku and two gals who are more alike than any of them want to admit, bonding over something they all pretend not to care about.
The manga by Norishiro-chan and illustrator Sakana Uozumi has been running in Monthly Comic Zenon since August 2021. Twelve volumes in, Yen Press is bringing it to English readers — the first volume dropped in October 2025.
Staff and Voice Cast
Director Arata Mita leads the production at TMS Entertainment’s Studio 6. Series scripts are handled by Kazuhiko Inukai, who also worked on Bakugan: Armored Alliance and the upcoming Fist of the North Star adaptation. Character design goes to Rion Matsuda, previously on Girlfriend, Girlfriend.
The main voice cast:
- Shō Komura as Takuya Seo
- Konomi Inagaki as Kei Amane
- Yū Serizawa as Kotoko Ijichi
Composer Kō Satō rounds out the core team.
Why This Rom-Com Anime Is Worth Watching
“Gal x otaku” is a proven formula — My Dress-Up Darling proved that. But this one flips the script a little. The gals are the ones keeping secrets too, which makes the dynamic feel less one-sided and more genuinely mutual.
Add in a solid studio, a cast of recognizable voice actors, and a manga that’s still actively running, and you’ve got one of the more promising rom-coms of Spring 2026.
